Back with another wild, exhilarating, enthralling, and life-changing post for my fictional fan base.
So, my last couple of posts have been pretty research-intensive and educational. I wanted to switch things up for today and do a more lighthearted, fun, and less thought-provoking post for shits and giggles.
Don’t get it twisted. I love researching, reading, and writing about all things public health, but I want to keep the posts fresh. It’s for the best that I keep everyone on their toes.
So let’s get into it. What are some of my favorite things?
- Animal documentaries with crazy ass storylines (examples would be Chimp Crazy, Blackfish, Tiger King, and Titanoboa). Shit like this will never fail to entertain me.
- Carrot cake. God knew what he was doing. Can’t argue on this one. It’s the best kind of cake, period.
- Boogie boarding. This probably isn’t even the most juvenile thing about me.
- The people in my life. What can I say, I’m incredibly blessed.
- Christmas. Seeing family, giving and receiving gifts, good food, and good fun. What more can a person want? Hands down, it’s the best holiday.
- Card games. Because I love nothing more than to laugh uncontrollably.
- Morning workouts. I always look forward to this part of my day. I am truly blessed to be able to move and care for my body.
- Hearing a song for the first time and falling in love with it. This is truly one of the best experiences ever. Some songs that come to mind are How to Fly by Sticky Fingers, Photo ID by Remi Wolf, and Language by Paperboy Fabe. This is part of what it means to be human.
- Going to coffee shops. Give me a fun little drink and a pastry and the day has been made.
- Ghirardelli’s sugar cookie chocolate squares. Try them if you haven’t yet, trust me they’re good.
- Going to the library to pick up a new book. I love starting a new book. There’s no feeling like it.
- Gooey cookies that are slightly underdone in the middle. If this isn’t one of your favorite things there’s something wrong. Something seriously wrong.
- Spotify Wrapped Day. One of the best days of the year.
- Cape Cod architecture. If only I had the money. I’d love to live in a cute little East Coast beach house. Maybe one day.
- When inspirational quotes are painted on the sides of buildings. I love to imagine it was put there just for me. As if the world revolves around me or something. In all honesty, though I feel like they always say exactly what I need to hear.
- Podcast walks. Refreshing, stress relieving, and educational.
- Fun little cocktails. Because who the hell doesn’t love fun little cocktails?
- Jojo Rabbit. Please watch this movie if you haven’t already. It’s lovely.
- Starbucks. Keeps me in touch with my feminine side.
- Costco/Sam’s Clubs vanilla frozen yogurt. A day I get to have one of these is a good day to be alive.
- Witnessing people argue about politics. It’s a level of entertainment that’s hard to beat. With no shame, I eat that shit up.
- Lindor chocolate balls. The way they melt in your mouth is a level of chemistry I don’t quite understand, but honestly I don’t really need to. FYI- birthday cake is the best flavor I’ve tried to date.
- Cult documentaries or any television show about crime. Always a good watch. Criminal Minds is a personal favorite.
- Corn dogs. Need I say more?
- Movie theaters. Eating some candy in front of the big screen has indescribable healing powers.
- Pinterest. The best app for doom scrolling.
- The inside jokes with my family that the general public should never know about. A sure way to make me laugh.
- My comfort shows (The Office, Dance Moms, Freaks & Geeks, and The Simpsons). If you’ve never seen any of these shows, watch an episode the next time you’re not feeling great. It may just make life feel a little easier.
- Icing. I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t eaten a bowl of straight icing for breakfast before.
- Matthew Grey Guebler. This man is a gem.
- Thunderstorms. The best weather, except when I have to be outside.
- The Brady, Gronk, and Edelman era of the New England Patriots. Such a time to be alive. May this era of football rest in peace.
- Chunky sneakers. They complement everything I wear.
- The New York Times games. Getting the Wordle, the Mini, and the Connections all correct is a recipe for a great day.
- Trying new foods. This is even more fun when you pretend to be a judge on a baking or cooking show.
- 2016 pop and rap music. If Juju on That Beat or Broccoli aren’t still on your playlist, maybe we aren’t compatible.
- Cookie dough. If you couldn’t tell already, I have a sweet tooth.
- The Catcher in the Rye. Only the best book I’ve ever read in my life.
- The Megalodon episodes of Shark Week. My guilty pleasure. I’m re-watching them currently and let me tell you, they are just as good as I remember them being back in 2014.
- Tanning by or in the pool with an Arnold Palmer. Very few things bring me more joy than this.
- White chocolate peanut butter cups. They’re just better. Two lovely foods combined to make something incredibly special.
- A very dark shade of green. Always has been my favorite color.
- Occasions when day drinking with your friends is justified. A fun little Mardi Gras or Homecoming are perfect examples.
- Homemade pizza. It just tastes better. You can also get more creative with the toppings. And more generous.
- Any occasion that requires me to dress up. Casual Barbie likes to play dress up too sometimes.
This list is by no means extensive. I’m sure there are some things I left out or didn’t think of. But I think I hit the major points.
So, what are your favorite things?
