What’s good, everyone? As 2025 comes to a close, I want to share my advice on how to prepare for the new year. Here are what I believe to be the best practices for closing out the year and heading into the new one the right way!
1. Reflect on the Year
Take some time to reflect on all you’ve done this year. In what ways have you grown? What are your biggest achievements of the year? Did you set any goals for this year, and if so, did you meet them? When we take time to reflect on the year behind us, we get a better sense of what we want to achieve and amount to in the new year. We can identify the areas where we want to change, grow, or become better people when we reflect on our current situation. So I encourage you to take some time to do that. Sit down and think. What were the highlights of this year? What challenges did you face? So on and so forth. Write it down if it helps. Reflect, contemplate, and do what you need to do to move forward and get your shit together.
2. Declutter and Organize Your Space
No better way to start the new year than in a clean and organized space. Clean your fucking room, or your house. Declutter and get rid of all the shit you don’t use or want anymore. Organized home, organized mind, organized life. That’s the way it goes.
3. Buy a New Planner
Honestly, this is what I’m looking forward to most to prepare for the new year. I love getting a new planner. It’s like a ritual. The Papier ones are so cute and functional, too. I think I need one of those. This is all besides the point. The reason I say you should buy a new planner is that you can get an early start on organizing your year. Write down important dates or goals. Write down things you need to get done. Stay on track with what’s important. We all need a planner, so why not buy one for the start of the new year? Like, when the fuck else would you buy one?
4. Make a Vision Board
If you don’t have Pinterest, I would suggest getting it. It’s the best app in my opinion. And perfect for making a vision board for brainstorming goals and feels for the new year. How do you want this year to look? What habits do you want to pick up or keep up with? What do you want to achieve or amount to? Who do you want to be? All important questions and making a vision board can help with the visual aspect of creating your dream life. Once you see it, you know it’s possible. Plus, once you make a vision board on Pinterest, you can always look back on it for motivation and inspiration throughout the year.
5. Set Goals for the New Year
This one’s important. Ask yourself what you want to achieve this year, or in the long run, and then create goals that will get you there. I like to set like 3 or 4 goals for the new year because otherwise I get overwhelmed. And we don’t want that. But after reflecting on the past year, what ideas did you come up with? What ways do you want to improve your life or achieve more? What ways do you want to be a better version of yourself? Write all that shit down and set a few meaningful goals for yourself to achieve this year.
6. Create a New Year Plan
Last but certainly not least, we have create a new year plan. This is the last step because it’s based on the goals you set for yourself. Now that you have a few concrete goals, how do you plan to achieve those? What are the little things you can do each day, week, and month to get you closer to your goals? Start planning those things out to set yourself up for success in this new year.
